Nike Shox is a support system in several Nike sneakers, first released in 2000 during the Olympics. The design is one created primarily by hollow polyurethane columns in the midsole that support the heel of the shoe and act almost like springs. Most models include four circular columns in a square formation to provide stability. Later variations sometimes added additional columns or changed to triangular or rectangular formations.
